What can you do with it?
With this package you can convert modular 3D models into assemblable models for VR headsets.
Here is a Demo Video.
Prerequisites
- The 3D model should have separate meshes for each part and they should be touching each other to create the automatic socket-plug relationship.
- The meshes should use Mesh Renderer not Skinned Mesh Renderers.
- The project should have Unity’s XR Interaction Toolkit. Can work in conjunction with other XR packages as long as XR Interaction Toolkit is being used for interacting with the objects.
- After importing the package in your project, import the Starter Assets from the Package Manager>XR Interaction Toolkit>Samples for the demo scene’s XR Origin (XR Rig) prefab.

- If you’re using Built-in or HDRP pipelines instead of URP, import the respective materials package from VRAssemblyFactory/Materials folder.

- For the demo scene download and import the free Hot Rod Constructor Asset in your project. (optional)

How to make a model assemblable
Short version
- Drag your model in the scene.
- Put all mesh objects (which have Mesh Renderers) as direct children of a single empty object.
- Reorder the mesh objects so that the objects which are upper in the hierarchy (usually larger objects) will act as sockets and the objects below them act as plugs which attach to the sockets.
- Right click on the parent game object and click VR Assembly Factory>MakeAssemblable.
